A beautiful home, a private yard, and me, home with them all day.

Your dog stays with me in a lovely San Francisco home, not a kennel. I work from home, so during the day I'm right here with them. They get a private backyard, at least two walks on full days, meals on their usual schedule, their medicine, and plenty of toys, treats, and attention.

  • Home with your dog all day
  • Small groups only
  • 2+ walks on full days
  • Meet & greet first, always

What your dog gets

Everything they get at home, and a little more.

With me, all day

The backyard

A private, enclosed garden for lounging, sniffing, and play through the day, always with me close by.

2 minimum, more on request

Walks on demand

Two real walks every full day in Golden Gate Park or the Presidio. If your dog wants more, they get more.

Your food, your schedule

Feedings

I feed the food you bring, in the amount you tell me, at the times your dog is used to. Slow feeders and separate bowls are no problem.

Logged every dose

Medicine

Pills (hidden in a treat or given by hand), liquids, eye and ear drops, and topical treatments. Every dose is written down with the time.

Plenty of both

Treats and attention

Belly rubs, brushing, and couch time. Treats are given with your approval, and never if your dog is on a special diet.

Fetch, tug, and more

Toys and play

A full toy basket: tennis balls, tug ropes, squeakers, and puzzle feeders. Fetch in the yard, tug on the patio, and a new game when they get bored.

Sleeps inside

Cozy nights

Every dog sleeps indoors, never in a kennel. Bring their bed or a blanket from home and they'll settle right in.

Every evening

Photo updates

A few photos and a short note each night, so you know exactly how your dog's day went.

My specialty

Senior dogs, dogs on medicine, and nervous dogs.

Some dogs need more than a bed and a bowl. These are the dogs I love having here most, and a quiet home with someone around all day suits them far better than a busy kennel.

The yard

A private garden, and a cozy home to come in to.

Most city dogs never get a backyard of their own. Here, they have one for the whole stay.

A brown and white Australian shepherd grinning on the grass

The yard is a bonus. The walks are real.

Your dog isn't just let out back to do their business. Dogs here for the day get real walks, on leash, out in the neighborhood and the park.

  • Two walks on every full day and 24-hour stay, plus more if your dog wants them
  • Real destinations: Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, and Mountain Lake Park
  • Time to sniff and explore, not a quick lap around the block
  • Every walk is in your daily note, with the time and where we went

A real day here

I'm home with them all day, and you get a note every evening.

I'm home with your dog during the day, so they aren't left alone while someone is at work. Each night I send photos and a short log of the day: meals, walks, medicine, and how your dog is doing. Here's an example.

About me

Hi, I'm J.J.

I've had animals my whole life. I grew up with four cats, three dogs, and a boatload of hamsters and lizards, so a houseful of paws feels normal to me. I started boarding to give dogs a better option than a kennel while their families are away. I work from home, so during the day I'm here with your dog, not away at an office.

I can host several dogs at once, but I keep groups small so every dog gets real attention. Before I say yes to any stay, you and your dog come over for a meet and greet. It has to be a good fit for everyone: you, your dog, me, and my cat, Baxter.

Kind words

What clients say.

James is an excellent dog walker for our dog, Dory! Dory can be a little shy and wary of strangers, but she really warmed up to James within a pretty short time period. We attribute it to James’ easygoing nature and positive energy. He is incredibly responsive, provides very thoughtful updates, sends many photos of our sweet pup, and always keeps us informed. We are grateful for James and appreciate that he treats our Dory girl with love, kindness, and patience. She seems to enjoy her walking adventures with him! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a dog walker they can trust!

How booking works

Every new dog comes over for a visit first.

I only take a stay once we've met in person. It's the best way to make sure your dog will be happy here.

  1. Text me your dates

Tell me about your dog and when you'll be away. I'll let you know if I have room.

  2. Baxter, a tabby cat, curled up in his bed

    Come over and meet us

A 20–30 minute visit to see the house and yard, and to meet me and my cat, Baxter. This step is required, and it's free.

  3. Book the stay

If it's a good fit for everyone, I’ll put your dates on the calendar. No deposit needed.

Cat sitting

Cats stay home. I come to them.

Cats are happiest in their own space, so I visit them there. Every visit covers food, fresh water, a clean litter box, any medicine, and some playtime or lap time, and you get a photo update after each one.

In-home visits only, in the Inner and Outer Richmond, Inner and Outer Sunset, and nearby. Cats don't board at my house; Baxter is the only cat here, and he likes it that way.
